Our mission
To bridge generations by creating a nurturing space where children and seniors connect, learn and grow together, improving well-being, building emotional bonds, and keeping cultural traditions alive through everyday interaction.
Peedhiya is an intergenerational daycare centre in Chandigarh. Children from six months to six years and adults aged sixty and above spend their day in one shared, carefully designed space, with their own rooms, their own routines, and plenty of hours where those routines overlap.
It is a familiar idea in Japan, Canada and the UK, and a new one here. We built Peedhiya because the families around us needed it: a working couple should not have to choose between reliable childcare and looking after their parents.
The name comes from peedhiyan, generations. That is the whole idea, in one word.
Three words we hold ourselves to, every day.
Pyaar
Love. Care given the way you would want it given to your own family, patiently, and by name.
Pind
Roots. The village sense of community, brought into the city: neighbours, stories and shared meals.
Peace
Calm. For the elders who spend the day with us, the children who grow here, and the families who trust us.
To bridge generations by creating a nurturing space where children and seniors connect, learn and grow together, improving well-being, building emotional bonds, and keeping cultural traditions alive through everyday interaction.
To become India's leading intergenerational daycare: a model of community care where meaningful connection between seniors and children is simply part of how a neighbourhood works.
Seniors and children do real things together, not staged photo moments. Mutual respect and empathy are learned by doing.
Cognitive, emotional and physical health for both age groups, supported by trained staff and daily routines that actually suit them.
Songs, languages, recipes and festivals pass down naturally when the people who remember them are in the room with the people who will carry them forward.
We support the whole family, not just one member of it, including the caregivers who are usually stretched thinnest.
Combining childcare and eldercare under one roof is new in India. We are building it carefully, and learning openly as we go.
Nobody here is a patient or a problem to manage. Elders contribute, children are trusted, and both are listened to.
Peedhiya is an initiative of the Sachtek Educational Society, founded in Chandigarh in 1995 to support entrepreneurship and skill development among students and underserved communities.
It is also the parent organisation of the Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED), which has spent three decades running skill, training and entrepreneurship programmes across north India.
That history matters here: our caregivers are trained through RCED's government-affiliated programmes, and many of them are women returning to work after years away from it.
Take a look at our programmes, or come by for a visit and meet the people who will be looking after your family.
